Abraham Lincoln Public Park stretches for 11 km along the shores of picturesque Lake Michigan. It is incredibly popular among local residents and visitors to the city, because, according to statistics, about 20 million people come here every year. The park, named after the beloved American reformer, was founded in 1868. Just ten years earlier, the site of the park was occupied by a public cemetery, but the locals did not want to put up with the gloomy neighborhood, and in 1860 the city council decided to organize on this swampy shore “Lake Park” (Lake Park). The city began to improve the territory, allocating a decent amount of money for this, and soon a green and well-groomed city park was born, which received its name in 1865, after the assassination of President Lincoln. Lincoln Park has become a place of cultural life, in the summer carnival processions, open-air concerts, performances in the theater on the water are held here.
Over the next century, the park gradually expanded to the north and south, and local landscape designers and architects were engaged in its development and arrangement. By the middle of the 20th century the result of their labors was a huge park complex with baseball and football fields, landscaped fishing areas, golf courses and tennis courts, well-groomed beaches and protected areas.
In addition to natural and sports facilities on its territory there is a greenhouse, a zoo, a Museum of Nature, a Historical Museum, North Avenue Beach, a conservatory, as well as monuments to Grant, Franklin and Lincoln.

Lincoln Park Zoo
The most favorite place in Lincoln Park for both adults and children is the local zoo. Founded in 1868, it is considered the oldest in the New World. One of its rare and long-lived sights is an old oak planted in the early 19th century. The history of the zoo began with beautiful swans – a gift to the state of Michigan from New York, followed by more severe new settlers – bears and lions. Much later, monkeys acquired their apartments in the zoo. In order for animals to live comfortably and gracefully in captivity, conditions are created for them that are as close as possible to the natural environment. Animals calmly walk around the territory, feeling like a part of the world around them. “Two Corns” is a popular nickname for the skyscrapers of the Marina City complex in Chicago, from the side they really look like maize cobs. This form is a conscious reaction of the architect Bertrand Goldberg to the standard construction of megacities with rectangular buildings devoid of any individuality. His revolutionary project for 1959 was unanimously adopted by the city council and just 5 years later the list of Chicago attractions was enriched with a new object. At its foot was a marina, hence the name.
What to watch
The first 19 levels of both 60-story skyscrapers are occupied by a parking lot for 896 cars. On the 20th floor there is a laundry, concert and conference halls, a bowling alley, a cinema and a restaurant, above there are offices and apartments. The buildings are fully air-conditioned, the only source of energy in them is electricity, gas is not even used for heating. Currently, work is underway on their landscaping in order to achieve complete environmental friendliness.
All rooms are planned in the form of sectors with an entrance from the side of the central column. The outer arched wall of the apartments is entirely occupied by convex glazed balconies. The upper levels are penthouses with fantastic views of Chicago, high-speed elevators lift here in 35 seconds.
The Marina City complex was awarded the prize of the American Institute of Architecture, its construction gave impetus to new projects that violate generally accepted standards. Futuristic buildings have more than once become the scenery of famous blockbusters: “I, Robot”, “Knight Rider”, “Curly Sue”.
