The bike path will be divided in half: one half will be exclusively for bicycles, half shared with service vehicles of EMAE.
On February 11, the day go by Bike was invited, along with other cicloativistas and entities, to a meeting at the Secretariat of Sports of the city of Sao Paulo they were presented the bike lanes of the Autóodromo Jose Carlos pace and the Pinheiros River. At this meeting were presented several Pine River bike trail information, including that she would be open to the public this month. This week, came through the Institute Manicstreetjournal the news that the expected date is day, Saturday 27.

There is only access at both ends of the bike path, 14 km from each other. Back in September, when we ran the full course of the bike path at the invitation of CPTM, we call attention to the lack of access, pointing out the adaptation of the bridges as a possible solution. On 5 October, the list suggestions for the new bike path, we caution you that if you only have a “[access] at each end, or if even though several they are not easy to use, the bike path will not have much use, the cyclists will prefer to go outside, even at risk”. And the next day, commenting on a meeting of project presentation of the bike path (where if you noticed the absence of the Secretary of transportation and of the CET, which SHOULD be present as these mobility), we said verbatim that “without access, does not work for transportation, just to walk”, stressing that as much as we are sympathetic to the project, there is no denying that…
Ideally make hits on ALL the bridges along the route, integrating the bike path to the road flow. The ill will, prejudice and lack of vision of the whole of some people in average positions in municipal administration wouldn’t be setback for a project of this size and importance, if we had a mayor firm and well-intentioned in relation to mobility, or a Secretary of transportation to take seriously their own rare pro-bicicleta and speeches and your position as a pro Cyclist Group Coordinator. But they prefer to look the other way and leave the discussions on the subject (which were not few), leaving the Secretary of sports and to CPTM trying to convince private companies to sponsor the construction of accesses, or ask for outlandish designs of bridges unique to bicycles to a unit cost around $1 million, when could solve quickly and cheaply with ramps made with tubular structures linking the bike path every bridge. This situation is ridiculous, not to mention offensive, and shows the lack of seriousness with which the bike is seen by Mayor Kassab and mainly by the uber Secretary Alexandre de Moraes.
The truth is that the Department of transport and your body that should deal with mobility, CET, don’t want to officially support the use of the bicycle in the streets of the city of Sao Paulo and try to restrict it to bike lanes, lanes of recreation and parks. Probably the personal opinion of the Secretary is that the bikes would disturb the cars. As if 50 bicycles in the right lane of a three-lanes Avenue, for example, cause the same congestion of 50 cars across all tracks of that Avenue. You don’t have to be an expert in transit to realize (theoretically, the Secretary is – or should have become – an expert on the subject). The cars disturb each other and everybody else and make use of the bicycle, walking and using public transportation is working to put more cars on the street, complicating the situation.
Another constraint that is becoming clear to us cicloativistas is that these same bodies don’t want to adopt official stance in support of the use of the bicycle in the streets because they fear becoming responsible for the safety of cyclists. Without supporting this usage type, you can close your eyes and turn your back to the current situation, implying that the rider knows the risk you are taking when you use an avenue. But the transit agencies are responsible for the safety of cyclists, according to the Art. 21 of the code. The law already says that. These organs have been missing with most of the population, as if your obligation was to work only for the free flow of traffic, taking your way of trucks, buses and line, pedestrians and cyclists.
Today, a lot of people already use the Marginal Pinheiros as well as the Tiete, for their daily commutes by bike. There are right ways and plans, geographically ideal for cyclists. And no hits on all the bridges of this new bike path, these cyclists will continue circulating in local track, because they need and have that right even in Marginal –, which also fall under the art. 58 of the code. Hits on all the bridges would save time and money of the public administration, but mainly lives of cyclists. However, some indirect killer believes that the streets are for cars, the cyclist who buy a car if you want to use the via.
Advantage or disadvantage?
Despite the bike path just meet the demand of mobility of a few lucky ones as our reader Roberto, which has on the bike path exactly the route that needs to go through to get to work, it is important for taking up a space that could be lost to other purposes and that deserves to be used for offsets by bicycle. The whole bike path and bikelane has its burden and their bonuses. As burden, we have segregation and apartheid vehicular governing the city: the more bike lanes, more increases the idea anticidada that the prejudiced and streets were made for cars and bikeway and bike in the Park. I took a thin killer of a cab driver who was justified by saying that ” the bikelane is Sunday only “, like that, even if that were a valid argument, serve a reason to threaten my life just to “educate”. Now imagine how they will be treated within very little time cyclists used the track location of the Marginal Pinheiros: bad drivers will feel the right to threaten them with their cars, because after all there is a bike path on the side and it was only fair to play the car on top of them to demonstrate who should be her.
As a bonus, this bike path should be a path that, in addition to insurance, was really helpful, bringing convenience, speed and shortening the offsets of cyclists. Claim, demand, be citizen
By the danger of the burden that this bike path can bring and so that it does not serve only as a setting of election propaganda, it becomes VERY IMPORTANT that we continue to exert constant pressure so she wouldn’t be dumped as it is, a mere leisure bike trail. Send letters to newspapers, complain to the aldermen through e-mail, telephone or in person, please contact City Hall, with the CET, with the Department of transportation. If everybody lower the head and stand still, will continue treating cyclists as marginal as a rabble that insist on disturbing the cars, like we don’t have rights in this town
Those who do not use the car is also a citizen and deserves respect. The current administration deals with who does not use the automobile as second-class citizens, leaving on hand who uses public transportation, bike or their own feet as a means to offset.
