Biker killed your Manoel
The motorcyclist who caused the death (why call of accident would be very euphemism), passed at high speed around the floor of the bus, with the signal for him, on a pedestrian crossing. When taken for ransom, the biker was accompanied by military police. According to a second source, he will be indicted for manslaughter, namely, without intent to kill. For me, someone who passes at high speed on a closed signal with pedestrian crossing has (or should be) aware of the risk you are taking; so the murder should be considered murder.
The crossing of pedestrians on the site
After several minutes for cars pass, the pedestrian signal opens and closes quickly. The other Ghost Bikes of Sao Paulo
The first Ghost Bike was installed at the end of 2007, on AV. Luis Carlos Berrini, one of the main commercial and business of the city. Was removed in a few days (I believe it was withdrawn until the next day). Was in an upscale suburb, in front of a Bank and was not well understood. It was ugly, bad for business. Vanished quickly.
The second Ghost Bike was established in honor of our friend Marcia Prado, murdered by a bus driver in January 2009. The white bike is up today on Avenida Paulista, in what became a memorial where cyclists often still pay their respects. Marcia was very dear in the Bike and is always remembered by all of us.
Marcia Prado was honored with the creation of a route Cicloturistica with your name, linking Sao Paulo and the coast. This route had an experimental opening at the beginning of this year and is on track to become official, open permanently. Today the cyclists have no option to get to the coast, are totally forbidden, a flagrant and unpunished rights violations. The Ecovias, concessionaire who thinks he owns the highways leading to Santos, does not allow bicycle traffic, preventing the passage of cyclists with support from State police and even, amazingly, Artesp, justifying that “is not secure”. It is not, but should be. And Ecovias does nothing to make it safe. After all, cyclist does not pay toll, screw their rights.
The third Ghost Bike was installed in November 2009, in honour of the cyclist Fernando Martins Couto and gari Antonio Ribeiro. To include the gari in tribute, was posted a broom sweeping of streets next to the bike. They were both talking on the sidewalk, waiting to perform the crossing when they were harvested ” ” by a bus at high speed. On installing this Ghost Bike/Ghost Broom, cyclists were present, garis, the victim’s family and a lot of people passing by the site. This white bike also continues there today.

No more ghost bikes
Which are not needed more Ghost Bikes! But while they are, we will do our best so that these regrettable deaths are not in vain. There is a need for urgent public awareness, especially of the CET, the SIURB, the Secretary of Transportation. It’s no use pretending not to see: the rider there is, is part of the traffic travels through all the regions of the city all day, has the same right to travel the owners of automobiles and motorcycles. And the same right to get it home at the end of the day.
Was to have a bike path!
On Av Vereador Jose Diniz circulating many cyclists. As the Waters spread, or displayed avenues Roberto Marinho and Vincent Rao are in deep valleys, Jose Diniz becomes the best option. When the Avenue was reformed, the project of New Councilman Jose Diniz Avenue contemplated a bike path. Second Cleber Ricci Anderson, cyclist and cicloativista that has a store in the region, the bike path was simply “forgotten” by the authorities of the time. When charged, ensured the construction of another, as “compensation”, in a street parallel to the new Avenue.
Now ask: where is the bike path compensation. And, how well placed the Cleber, who will “compensate” the death of Mr. Manoel? And the risk that other cyclists run without the promised?
Ignore the presence of the cyclist on the streets is condemning many of them to death
Kill indirectly, without having to look into the eyes of the victim, doesn’t weigh on your conscience and allows you to sleep at night. The policy to prioritize the flow of motor vehicles in relation to life, relegating the safety of pedestrians and cyclists to a background (maybe third, fourth, tenth) results in deaths. A cyclist and a pedestrian a day are killed by moving machines that have your total priority fluidity in this Holy City.
Think about it.
